Religion and Sneezing
It would seem like those words don't really have too much in common, but alas we all know the superstition behind them. Of course I'm talking about saying "God, Bless You" after someone unleashes a convulsive expulsion of air from their lungs that we call sneezing. The genesis behind the phrase dealt with evil demons being released from your body and by some how saying God Bless You, you are eradicating the malevolent forces in your cursed body. Today, we say it in good manners for some reason. It's really the only thing of it's kind in our society. It's not like we say "God Save Your Soul or something when you fart or are heard audibly puking. It's a archaic societal habit that we've never seem to question really. Everytime I hear someone say it in a public place following sneeze, it just seems to cause more of a disturbance, when a group of people have tp decide who should say it first. If you don't say it the implication is that you have bad manners. I've just always had trouble understanding this common practice. Why am I obligated to say something, just because a person is blowing snot and spit out of their nose. I'm not just not a fan. Am I the only who's felt this way?
